Week 1: Spatialisation.

Tuesday 3rd October

In the first lesson back for spatialisation, Ingrid walked through the element as well as, some info on the second year. I wasn’t certain about picking spatialisation at first, but after the first session I was happy with my choice. This was mainly due to the piece we looked at (well, heard) which at the moment I can’t remember the name of, but once I do I will mention it somewhere. Either way, hearing the way the artist used his voice to act as 8 different people was really impressive. During the first year, I enjoyed using my voice in my works, and the octophonic ring turning a regular voice into many conflicting and individual people, really intrigued me.

I thought of the project I did last year ‘Thought artist’ where I recorded multiple voice lines and had them repeat over and over again. It would be a lot more coherent with the 8-speaker output.

I looked at an installation called Audium: Sound Hour in San Francisco. It is a 176-speaker sound system designed to described as ‘a place to relax in a safe sonic space away from all the noise’.

”This curated, immersive environment takes the listener on a sonic journey throughout San Francisco’s aurally rich landscape”

There are many environments you can enjoy at Sound Hour based on locations in San Francisco such as The Tenderloin, Baker Beach and the Sunset District as well as sounds of nature.
